Students who want to enroll in UNC-Chapel Hill classes without being admitted to one of our degree or certificate programs are considered Visiting Students.

UNC-Chapel Hill offers the following options for visiting students: 

Non-degree Seeking Undergraduate Students

Part-Time, Undergraduate, Fall and Spring

This option is available to students who have completed high school or an associated degree and have been out of school for at least 12 months, but do not have an undergraduate degree and do not want to apply to a UNC-Chapel Hill degree program. Please visit our Undergraduate page to learn more and for a link to apply through Undergraduate Admissions.

If you are interested in applying to UNC-Chapel Hill as a part-time student working towards a UNC-Chapel Hill degree (not visiting), please visit the Structured Pace Degree-Seeking Students page on the Undergraduate Admissions website for more information and to apply. 

Visiting Graduate Students

Post-baccalaureate Enrollment

This option is available to students who have completed an undergraduate degree and want to take UNC-Chapel Hill courses (graduate or undergraduate) but do not want to apply to a UNC-Chapel Hill degree or certificate program. Please visit our Visiting Graduate Students page to learn more and to apply.

Summer School Visitors

Undergraduate, Graduate, and High School Students

This option is available for students who only want to take classes during the summer sessions. Both students who do not have an undergraduate degree (including high school students) and students who hold a bachelor’s degree may apply. Please visit the Summer School website for more information and to apply.

Undergraduate students who want to take classes in the summer as well as continue to take courses in the fall will need to apply to be a Summer School visitor for summer admission, as well as apply to Undergraduate Admissions for fall admission.

High School Students

Dual Enrollment

This option is available for high school students who wish to take a UNC-Chapel Hill course that is not offered at their schools. Please visit our Visiting High School Students page to learn more and to apply.

UNC Employees

UNC-Chapel Hill and UNC System Employee Enrollment

This option is available for eligible employees who want to take undergraduate or graduate courses. Please visit our Employees page to learn more and to apply. 

Employees who are interested in applying as a part-time student working towards a UNC-Chapel Hill degree, please visit the Structured Page Degree-Seeking Students page on the Undergraduate Admissions website for more information and to apply.

Students who are interested in a degree program are considered degree-seeking (not visiting) and should visit the Undergraduate Admissions page or The Graduate School’s Program page. Students interested in a certificate program should visit The Graduate School’s list of available programs.
